Birthday cookies

My daughter, Alice, turned 2 recently, and on the recommendation of a friend, I ordered cookies from M&W Dutch American Bakery to share with the kids in her day care classroom.

Located in Stockton's University Square shopping center, the bakery was founded about a decade ago by Wolf and Malou Dalichau. I've bought their cinnamon bread at farmers markets before, but until a couple of weeks ago, hadn't been inside their shop.

Oh, my gosh, you guys. Its display cases are filled with some super gorgeous treats. For Alice's birthday, we picked iced ladybug cookies. It was a tough call, though: The bumblebees are really adorable, and for Valentine's Day, there are pretty pastel hearts.

I ordered on a Friday and picked up on Monday. The cookies came wrapped individually, tied off with red ribbon.

At a bit more than a dollar a cookie, the order was pricier than, say, your typical grocery-store cupcakes. But also a lot more fun, I think.
