This Weekend With Kids

The next couple of days are supposed to be hot ones - but don't you love how clear and cool the evenings are? Makes me wish for a hammock.

This weekend, we're looking forward to a birthday party, and Alice and I are still trying to cook up a Father's Day surprise.

Bike or Hike to Feed the Hungry
The fourth-annual Bike or Hike starts and ends at University of the Pacific's DeRosa Center and benefits the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton. The routes sound beautiful, offering options that take participants through the city's historic Midtown, the Downtown waterfront and the Calaveras bike trail. The walk/ride begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. A kids bike rodeo and health fair start at 9.

Juneteenth
This annual celebration commemorates the date in June 1865 when the abolition of slavery was announced in Texas. Stockton's Juneteenth event will be held at from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Taft Community Park, 389 W. Downing Ave. Admission is free, and the festival will include kids' activities, food and entertainment.

Yosemite Street Faire
Musical acts (including The Afternaps) will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on Yosemite Street, between Acacia and Poplar in Stockton. (Last year we went and had lunch at Yosemite Meat Market and Deli).

And a few for Father's Day:

Stockton Ports Father's Day Plan
A special package includes tickets to five Ports games and fireworks shows, including a father-child catch on the field before Saturday's game. Also covered is admission to the Ports' Fourth of July event. $45 a seat. Call (209) 644-1900 to order.

Father's Day Weekend Car Show
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tracy's West Valley Mall. The event features music, food and games. Admission to view the cars is free; Vehicle entry is $15.

Dad's Day Barbecue at Wine and Roses
The event features barbecue, a Johnny Cash tribute show, draft beer tastings, kids' activities and tropical birds on display. Tickets are $49 for adults, $21 for kids 5-12 and $5 for kids younger than 5. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Wine and Roses in Lodi.
