This Weekend With Kids

My fingers are crossed that Alice will have enough energy left this evening for a trip Downtown for Summer ArtSplash.

To be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the second Friday of every month this summer, ArtSplash features exhibits housed in offices and galleries throughout the Downtown area, as well as kids activities and live performances.

Today, I want to visit the Mexican Heritage Center, for "Dos Visiones," a mixed-media exhibition by Rudy Garcia and Gilbert Olivas.

(I also hear that some of the puppets from DeltaFusion will make a Downtown appearance.)

Other ArtSplash venues include the Tidewater Art Center and Gallery, San Joaquin Pride Center, San Joaquin County Law Library, Fathers and Families of San Joaquin and the Downtown Stockton Alliance.

Will we see you there?

It's a busy weekend. Here's some more of what's going on:

Zoo Zoom
In the second-annual Zoo Zoom, run or walk through the lovely Micke Grove Park on a paved, 5K loop. Proceeds benefit the Micke Grove Zoo. From 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. 11793 N. Micke Grove Road in Lodi.

DeltaFusion Toy Theaters
Speaking of DeltaFusion, visit the Haggin Museum to learn how to build miniature theaters and puppets in a workshop aimed at helping kids tell their stories. From 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. 1201 N. Pershing Ave. in Stockton.

Swan Lake
The Lodi Youth Ballet, along with students from City of Lodi, perform Swan Lake at Hutchins Street Square. Shane Howell, of Capital City Ballet, will dance the role of the prince. Performances are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket prices start at $10. 125 S. Hutchins Street in Lodi.
