This Weekend With Kids

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures topping 100 degrees this weekend - and not much cooler for most of next week.

My impulse, when it gets this hot, is to just stay quiet and cool. But, who knows? Maybe we'll get ambitious.

Barrio Fiesta
The annual celebration of Filipino culture takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Filipino Center Plaza, 6 W. Main Street, in downtown Stockton. Now in its 40th year, the event features Filipino foods, including favorites such as pancit, lumpia and chicken adobo, as well as dancing, an escrima martial arts demonstration, and my personal favorite, the Filipiniana fashion show. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Passport to the Farms
A little out of town, but not too far. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, explore the Delta Grown Farm Trail, with farm tours, children's activities, farm equipment displays, wine tasting and fresh produce. Tickets are $15 for adults. Children younger than 16 are free. Tour stops are located in and around Courtland and Walnut Grove.

Latino Festival
In its first year, the Latino Festival promises live entertainment, educational workshops, folk dancing, food and children's activities. Tickets are $15 at the gate, and children younger than 12 are admitted free with a paying adult. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Weber Point Event Center in Stockton.
