Where to See Fireworks in Stockton

Fourth of July parade

Happy Independence Day!

I love looking at fireworks. Growing up, on Fourth of July, we used to light them in the street outside my grandmother's house. My dad always seemed so on edge, though, and I would think, "Dad. What's the big deal?"

Oh. I get it now.

Safe-and-sane fireworks can be purchased throughout Stockton (and fireworks sales raise lots of money for local organizations.) But with really little ones around it can feel better - and just as festive - to watch from a distance. Here's where to find fireworks displays in Stockton this evening:

Miracle Mile Fourth of July Parade
OK. Sorry, no fireworks here. But I had to include the parade because I love parades almost as much as I love fireworks. And this is a fun one. Weave some red, white and blue streamers through your bicycle spokes and ride over to Pacific Avenue, between Harding Way and Tuxedo Court. The parade starts at 10 a.m.

Stockton Ports Fireworks
The Stockton Ports play the Modesto Nuts at Banner Island Ballpark. The game starts at 7:05 p.m., with fireworks to follow. Before we had kids, my husband and I lived in an apartment above the Miracle Mile, and if we really craned our necks, we could just see this show out of our kitchen window. It's one of my favorite local memories.

Fourth of July Barbecue at University Plaza Waterfront Hotel
The pool will be open during the hotel's annual Independence Day barbecue - bring your own towel. Doors open at 5 p.m., with music and food starting at 6. You'll be able to see the Stockton Ports fireworks from the party. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for kids, and reservations are required.

Rooftop Fireworks at French 25
One more place to check out the Stockton Ports fireworks show. The restaurant is offering a barbecue buffet on its Downtown rooftop from 6 to 10 p.m. Reservations required.

Village West Marina Fireworks
Village West Marina, in collaboration with Garlic Brothers Restaurant and Village West will host a fireworks show starting after dark. Enjoy food and music - but get there early: seating is first come, first served.
