This Weekend With Kids

meyer lemons

When you live where we live at this time of year, it's hard not to take citrus for granted.

There are more lemons on our tree than we know how to use - even after the chicken piccata and the lemon bars and the jars of of lemon curd. And, week after week, we open our CSA box to find a big new batch of navels and mandarins.

I love it. Citrus in winter seems precious. Sunshine on a chilly day.

Anyway, while I look for more lemony recipes, here are some more things to enjoy this weekend:

Sugar Hearts at the Haggin Museum
As part of its Second Saturdays for Families series, the Haggin Museum is hosting Sacramento artists Rob-O and Imelda Martinez for an afternoon of decorating molded sugar hearts with icing and other embellishments. (Their work is beautiful!) There are two seatings - at 1:30 and 2:15 - each limited to 15 children each. Activities are included with the price of admission and all materials are provided.

Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream
We're going on Saturday. See you there? This is not something that would have landed on my calendar even a few years ago. But, as the parent of a princess-loving 3-year-old, it feels like a must-do. How's that for growth and development? See Disney princesses on ice at the Stockton Arena Saturday (11 a.m., 3 p.m. or 7 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m. and 5 p.m.). Ticket prices range from $19 to $67.

Gatka Performance
Explore Gatka, a Sikh martial art form that will be demonstrated at the Tracy Branch Library on Saturday. The performance begins at 2 p.m., and features members of the award-winning California Gatka Dal. 20 E. Eaton Ave. in Tracy.
